Therapy for teenagers
If you are looking for help for your teen, you may have noticed that they don’t seem themselves. They may be more withdrawn, angry, unhappy, or overwhelmed, perhaps they are hurting themselves or others. It may be that early life experiences are impacting them now as they get older, or perhaps they are finding school and relationships may feel difficult. Whatever it is that feels hard, I offer a safe space for teenagers to explore this.
Going through adolescence whilst trying to navigate home life, school life, society’s expectations, social media, and trying to figure out who you are amongst all of this can be overwhelming. Having a safe space to explore their thoughts and feelings can be hugely beneficial to teenagers. I provide a therapeutic space dedicated to them and their worlds. Often teens feel they have limited control over their day to day lives, leading to seeking a sense of control through unhealthy behaviours, such as, restrictive eating, self-harm, engaging in toxic relationships, so offering a space where they have autonomy over what we talk about and what we do in sessions can be powerful.
Many teens enjoy getting creative in therapy. I offer colours, paint, picture cards, sand tray, model making, games, and more, to explore feelings and experiences, as well as traditional talking therapy. Ultimately it is the trusting relationship we build that guides young people into opening up and exploring what is on their minds, leading to the process of growth and change.
